Slow And Steady Wins The Race

« Return to News

Whether you're about to move out or move in, everyone know's it is a painstaking process.  It's easy to get overwhelmed with how much stuff you have, how much you want to get rid of, and how much you don't want to move any of it.  If you have the luxury of planning out your move with at least a couple weeks' notice, Lexington Mini Storage can help.

Instead of trying to move everything at once, do it gradually.  As a result, you'll be surprised at how much you've moved in or out of your storage unit at Lexington Mini Storage over a period of time.

Moving out:

This is a good time to take the least frequently used items at your house to the storage unit.  By getting those things out of the way first, you'll be more motivated to continue to fill up your storage unit at a steady pace.

Be sure to keep everything organized when doing this.  Use moving boxes to store similar items together, making sure to label them in the process.

Before you know it, you'll have the majority of your things already put away.  By not waiting until the last minute to move, you are't as stressed out by how much you have to accomplish in a short amount of time.

Moving in:

Almost just the opposite of moving out, be sure to move the essentials into your new place first.  These are things you need almost everyday, such as a TV, some furniture, beds and mattresses, and towels and other linens.  If you wear yourself moving everything the first day, you can rest easy knowing you have a bed and clean sheets to rest on.

Then, move things that you use on a regular basis.  You'll start getting acclimated to your new environment and want all the luxuries of your old place.

A month or so after moving, you should still have things in your storage unit that you haven't needed yet.  These may be out of season items or things you just don't have a use for anymore.  That's when you have a garage sale.  For tips on making the most out of your garage sale, click here.
