Since spring has sprung, many people are looking to clean out their homes, closets, and garages in anticipation of the new season. This means that Garage Sales will be popping up in neighborhoods almost every weekend. If you are interested in organizing one of these events yourself, below are some tips on how to make it go as smoothly as possible.
Timing is everything. Choose your garage sale date wisely. Weather can play a big role on if anyone is going to come or not – choose a day that is nice and sunny. Most people are paid around the 1st and 15th of each month, so plan accordingly.
Select what you’re going to offer during your garage sale. De-cluttering your house is a great way to figure out what to sell during your garage sale and can make room for new items you may want to invest in. Cleaning out closets and getting rid of old clothes, finding old toys the kids don’t play with anymore, as well as any household items that aren’t applicable to you anymore is a great way to start.
Stage the garage sale in advance. Find tables to display items that are for sale. Likewise, group similar items together to make it easier for those who are shopping – CDs, DVDs, and electronics can go together, etc. The more organized you are, the more likely customers will take the time to look at what you have for sale.
Be ready for the sale day. Once you figure out what weekend you are going to have your garage sale, advertise it! You will also want to make sure each item is priced. Make sure to have enough change to give your customers after each sales transaction as well.
As always, what you don’t sell can always be put away in a Lexington Mini Storage unit at one of our two locations here in Lexington, KY!
