Dead Space? Make It Come Alive!

« Return to News

If you live in a small apartment or house, you get asked the same question every time someone comes to visit you: Where do you put all your…stuff? Well, depending on how well you manage your space determines how you answer. With these great tips from Lexington Mini Storage, you can now amaze your guests at how creative you are – here are some areas of your living space that are often overlooked, but boast great storage possibilities.

  • Above or behind the door: A bookshelf above the door or hanging your coats behind your door is a great idea.
  • No headboard, no problem: If you don’t have a headboard, think about installing a shelf or two above where your headboard would normally be.
  • Under the window: There are great options to buy or build your own storage consoles for under the window…because what else would go there? Nothing, probably.
  • Above the cabinets: Another culprit for hoarding dead space, put some baskets above your kitchen cabinets to get the most out of the space.
  • Under the bed: If you don’t have sufficient space under your bed, think about buying some bed risers. This is a great space to put your out-of-season shoes and clothes if your closet is strapped for space.

A common denominator of theses storage ideas is thinking vertically – both above and below common spaces around the house. Don’t think that you’re limited to the space your house gives you; think outside the box! What are some ways you squeeze every square foot out of your living space?
